Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Government of Australia pledged to support the reformation agenda thatwill be implemented by Malaysia's new administration, said Australian Minister ofForeign Affairs Julie Bishop on August 3.
Bishopnoted that the support would include Malaysia's reformation agenda on economy,social issues and politics which could strengthen ties between the two nations.
Malaysiahas gone through a historic election process and the Australian Government willdevelop relations with the new government and also strengthen the bilateralcooperation in regional and international issues of mutual interest, theminister said.
Bishopmade the statement at a press conference after meeting Malaysian Deputy PrimeMinister Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on the same day.
TheDeputy PM stressed that Bishop's visit would open up opportunities for bothsides to explore and strengthen existing cooperation between the two nations.She added that it would include strategic partnerships in various fields,notably trade and investment.
TheAustralian Foreign Minister has been on a visit to Malaysia from August 1-3during which she is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister MahathirMohamad, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and Attorney-General Tommy Thomas.–VNA
