More than 100 maps and Atlas proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos are on display at an exhibition that opened in the south central province of Binh Thuan on October 19.

Binh Thuan (VNA) – More than 100 maps and Atlas proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over HoangSa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos are on display at anexhibition that opened in the south central province of Binh Thuan on October19.

The exhibition alsoshowcases many documents in Han Nom (Vietnamese old script based on Chinesecharacters), Vietnamese and French, which were published by the Vietnamese feudalgovernment and the French administration in Indochina from the 17th century to early 20th century. They testified to the process of establishing,continuous enforcing and protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa andTruong Sa.

Alongside, royal documentsissued by the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945), the Republic of Vietnam in the southof Vietnam in the 1954-1975 period, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from1975 to now also highlight Vietnam’s sovereignty over the two archipelagoes.

At the same time, theexhibition also introduce publications and research works by Vietnamese andforeign scholars regarding Vietnam’s sovereignty over seas and islands.

The maps and documentsshow that Vietnamese people have exercised sovereignty over the two archipelagoesfor a long time in history, rejecting China’s arguments distorting history aswell as its ungrounded claims over the two archipelagoes in the East Sea.

According to Duong Tu,Vice Director of the Department of Information and Communications of BinhThuan, over the past years, the East Sea has seen complicated developments,especially some foreign countries’ illegal encroachment and construction inHoang Sa and Truong Sa of Vietnam, seriously violating the sovereignty ofVietnam over the two archipelagoes and threatening peace, stability in theregion as well as navigation and overflight security, safety and freedom in theEast Sea.

He said the exhibitionhelps highlight the Party and State’s stance on safeguarding sovereignty in theEast Sea and settling disputes through peaceful measures.
