Bounnhang Vorachith elected Lao Party chief

Vientiane (VNA) ෴- Bounnhang Vorachith has been elected as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

He was elected by the 10 th Party Central Committee of the LPRP, which announced the result on January 22 during the last working day of the 10th National Party Congress in Vientiane.
The Congress also elected members of the Party Central Committee for the 10 th tenure, including 69 official and eight alternate ones. During the first meeting of the new Party Central Committee the same day, an 11-strong Politburo was elected, including Bounnhang Vorachith, Thongloun Sisoulith, Pany Yathotou, Bounthong Chitmany, Phankham Viphavanh, Chansy Phosikham, Chansamone Chanyalath, Khamphan Phommathat, Saysomphone Phomvihane, Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune and Sonexay Siphandone.
The Secretariat groups nine members while the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission is led by Bounthong Chithmany. Bounnhang replaces outgoing General Secretary Choummaly Sayasone who served the position from 2006-2016./.
