Cambodia exports more rice in first four months

Cambodia exported over 200,000 tonnes of rice in the January-April period, up 67.2 percent from the same period last year.
Cambodia exported over 200,000 tonnes of rice in the January-April period, up 67.2 percent from the same period last year. According to the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export,China was the largest importer, buying more than 66,000 tonnes ofCambodia rice. It was followed by France with 23,000 tonnes.
Besides traditional customers, Cambodia is looking for new markets with the aim of increasing rice export. Farm produce, particularly rice, is a priority in Cambodia’s exportpolicy. However, the country is facing difficulties in processingequipment to enhance rice quality. Cambodia also has to compete withother major exporters such as Thailand and Vietnam./.

The Ministry of Commerce reported that imports also rose 18% to 29.9 billion USD during the same period, resulting in a trade surplus of 1.1 billion USD. In May alone, Thailand posted a 4.6 billion USD trade surplus with the US and a 4.1 billion USD trade deficit with China.
