Phnom Penh (VNA)🅰 – Cambodia held a flag raising ceremony to mark the 49th ASEAN founding anniversary on August 8 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The event saw the presence of Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn together with ambassadors or representatives from ASEAN member states and the bloc's dialogue countries.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said after 49 years of hard work and solidarity, ASEAN has integrated into one community, enjoying peace, stability and development. The community has always proudly embraced a common identity and shares the common vision of prosperity and solidarity.
He expressed his belief that “the ASEAN flag that we are hoisting today represents a symbol of unity and hope for some 628 million ASEAN citizens.”
The minister said that on the day, ASEAN flags were raised simultaneously at all diplomatic and consular missions of ASEAN member states along side their respective national flags.
On the occasion, he also reaffirmed the shared commitment to deepening and strengthening the ASEAN Community, adding that with the a concerted effort in the bloc and strong support from external friends, ASEAN will surely succeed in achieving a sharing and caring ASEAN Community, contributing to peace and prosperity in the region and the world.-VNA
