Hanoi (VNA) ꧑– The sixth Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Environment Ministers’ Meeting (EMM6) was kicked off in Cambodia on September 10.

The four-day event will be attended by the environment ministers and senior officials of the GMS countries, representatives from development partners, diplomatic corps and the private sector, among others. Delegates will discuss important strategic documents to enhance cooperation for realising a vision of a green, clean, beautiful and sustainable GMS, aiming to build a brighter future for the region.
According to the spokesperson from Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment, the meeting will approve two key documents, including the draft Phnom Penh Joint Statement on Prevention of Plastic Waste Pollution in the GMS and the draft 2030 Strategic Framework for Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability.
It also includes exhibitions showcasing environmental management achievements by various stakeholders. The GMS cooperation programme, established in 1992 with support from the Asian Development Bank, connects six countries, including Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Over 30 years, it has affirmed its imporance and role through expanding activities and promoting partnerships with other cooperation frameworks./.
