Cambodia lifts ban on former opposition leader’s return
The Cambodian Government has lifted its ban allowing former President of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Sam Rainsy, who has been living in exile for over a year and a half, to return home.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The CambodianGovernment has lifted its ban allowing former President of the oppositionCambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Sam Rainsy, who has been living in exilefor over a year and a half, to return home.
A statement released by Secretary of State of the Office of the Council ofMinisters Tekreth Samrach stressed that the Government decided to annuldirective No.151 banning Sam Rainsy’s entry into the country. It was addressedto National Police Commissioner General Neth Savoen and Director General of theMinistry of Interior’s general department of immigration General Sok Phal.
The directive, issued on October 12, 2016, instructed all airlines and internationalairports as well as international border checkpoints to look and check for thename of Sam Rainsy and not allow him to enter Cambodia.
Sam Rainsy has been living in exile in France from November 2015 to avoid atwo-year jail term for libeling Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong in 2008.-VNA
