Cambodia, Malaysia foster cooperation in various fields

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodian Prime Minister SamdechTecho Hun Sen and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar bin Ibrahim held talks inPhnom Penh on March 27, during which they agreed to foster the bilateralcooperation across spheres, from trade and investment to education, tourism,energy and people-to-people exchange.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Hun Sen said theydiscussed cooperation in various areas and encouraged both sides to continueexchanging high-level visits more often and at all levels to build closerfriendship, to further increase mutual trust and to expand the broader scope ofbilateral cooperation.
The Cambodian PM said he proposed increasing thepurchase of goods to meet each other’s demand, and encouraged Malaysianinvestors and companies to operate in Cambodia.
According to the Cambodian leader, the trade volumebetween the two ASEAN member countries was valued at 620 million USD in 2022,up 24% from the previous year.
The PM reaffirmed his commitment to working closelywith PM Ibrahim to further strengthen and expand the bilateral relations andcooperation, making them stronger and more prosperous.
For his part, Ibrahim said the wide-ranging discussionon trade and investment was a priority in the bilateral relations anddiscussions on the halal industry that Malaysia has enhanced will provide anopportunity for both countries to use the sector to encourage and facilitateexports.
The leader said he will also encourage Malaysiancompanies to consider importing rice and cashew nuts from Cambodia./.
