Cambodia marks national salvation solidarity front founding day

A ceremony was held in Phnom Penh on December 2 to celebrate the34 th founding anniversary of the Solidarity Front for the Developmentof Cambodian Motherland.

Addressing the event, NationalAssembly President and Chairman of the National Council of the front,Heng Samrin, recalled its establishment and the front’s 34 years ofdevelopment (formerly known as the Front for National Salvation).

TheCambodian Front for National Salvation was founded on December 2, 1978,in Snoul district, Kratie province, which borders Vietnam’ssouthern Binh Phuoc province.

Under the leadership of theCambodian People’s Party, the front encouraged people to form a greatunity bloc which was benefited from vast support from Vietnamesevolunteer soldiers to win a victory against the Pol Pot genocidal regimeon January 7, 1979. It was the beginning of a new life for Cambodianpeople and opened a new page in the country’s history.

On theoccasion, President Heng Samrin called on all Cambodian people to unitewith the Royal Government to uphold the national tradition and build acountry of stable politics, developed economics and prosperity.-VNA
