Cambodia reports two new bird flu cases, one fatality

Two more human cases of avian influenza H5N1 have been confirmed in Cambodia , and one of them, an 11-year-old boy, died on March 7.

Deputy Director of Kantha Bopha children hospital Denis Laurent saidthe boy was in a critical condition when he arrived at the hospital.

Another boy, eight years old, from Kandal province also suffered fromthe virus last week, but his condition is stable and he is recovering,the director said.

Cambodia has so far this year recordedeight cases of avian influenza H5N1, and three of them have died, allare children.

According to the World Health Organisation, H5N1virus normally spreads among the sick fowls, but it can spread frompoultry to humans.

The virus was first detected in Cambodia10 years ago. To date, the country has reported 55 human cases ofinfection, including 36 deaths.-VNA
