Cambodia’s tourism sector has set a target of serving 8 million foreignarrivals and earning more than 5 billion USD in revenue by 2020. To that end, the Tourism Ministry is carrying out a lot of policiesto improve the industry services and develop more products, with thefocus on traditional trade villages and eco-tourism. Training courses are being organised in order to raise the capacity of the sector’s staff.
The country is also upgrading its infrastructure and opening moredirect flights to countries and regions where their holidaymakers toCambodia are on the rise, including China and member countries of theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations. Cambodiawelcomed 1.27 million foreign visitors in the first quarter of 2014,representing a year-on-year rise of 8 percent.
During the January-March period, Vietnam topped the chart among the topten markets of tourists to Cambodia with 189,800 arrivals, up 4 percentfrom the same period last year. Tourism is one ofthe four sectors supporting Cambodia’s economy. The country received 4.2million foreigners in 2013, earning 2.5 billion USD. It is expected to greet 4.7 million international visitors this year.-VNA
