On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, children will have a chance to discover the culture of Can Tho – a Mekong Delta city – at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology from September 26-27, or the 14th and 15th days of the eighth lunar month. Artists from the Khmer, Hoa and Kinh ethnic groups living in Can Tho will entertain audiences with art performances including traditional Khmer “du ke” singing and “lam thon” dancing as well as lion dances.
Children can play folk games and will be taught to make toys like “to he” (toy animals made of sticky rice flour), star-shaped lanterns and “den keo quan” (a lantern which spins around with vivid, rotating paper-cut figures).
Visitors to the event will also be treated to specialties, including “banh xeo” (stuffed rice-flour pancake), "banh gung" (gingerbread cake) and “banh tet” (round glutinous rice cake). With the annual organisation of the mid-Autumn festival, the museum is serving as a venue to preserve the nation’s traditional culture.-VNA
