Can Tho plans to draw more Japanese investments in 2018

– The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho will organisea range of activities to strengthen cooperation with and attract moreinvestments from Japan in 2018, said a municipal official.

Nguyen Khanh Tung, Director of the city’s Centre for Investment, TradePromotion and Exhibition, said that work will start on an ICT Innovation centredeveloped by Brainworks Company.

The city will hold a trade and investment promotion conference inJapan’s Hyogo prefecture, a meeting with Japanese investors in Hanoi and adialogue with Japanese firms.

Tung said that in April 2018, Can Tho will kick off a model farm projectin the city as a joint effort of Can Tho College for Economy and Technology andJapan’s VAIO Company with the aim of training high quality agriculture expertsfor Can Tho. A Vietnam-Japan industrial park will also be constructed, he added.

Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of CanTho, said many Japanese investors are interested in Vietnam but the numbercoming to the city remained modes. Therefore, Can Tho needs to make abreakthrough in attracting Japanese investments, he stressed.

According to the Can Tho Centre for Investment, Trade Promotion andExhibition, by the end of 2017, the city accommodated 77 Japanese-investedprojects worth 656 million USD. Its export and service revenue in the year hit1.77 billion USD, exceeding the city’s plan by 5.9 percent and representing agrowth of 13.9 percent year on year.-VNA
