Quang Binh (VNA)– A ceremony to mark the 110th birthday of late General Vo Nguyen Giap will beheld on December 22, coinciding with the 77th founding anniversary of the VietnamesePeople’s Army, in the central province ofQuang Binh.
Before the ceremony, flower and incense offering will be held at General Vo Nguyen Giap’smemorial house in Le Thuy district’s Loc Thuy commune, the General’s grave inQuang Trach district’s Quang Dong commune, Ba Doc War Martyr Cemetery in BoTrach district, and the temple dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh and heroic martyrs in DongHoi city.
The ceremony will be broadcastlive on Vietnam Television’s VTV1 channel, the national radio The Voice of Vietnam (VOV), the Viet Nam NationalDefence television channel, People’s Police Television and televisionstations nationwide.

General Giap, whose real nameis Vo Giap, was born in Loc Thuy commune in Le Thuy district on August 25,1911. He passed away in Hanoi on October 4, 2013, at the age of 103.
The General’s military career began with his appointment to lead the firstVietnamese revolutionary army unit, with just 34 soldiers, in 1944. He thenbecame Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army and led the army fromvictory to victory during Vietnam’s resistance wars. To the Vietnamese people, he was not only a wartime hero but also an icon whodedicated his life to the development of the country./.
