VinGroup, one of the leading firms inVietnam , donated 5,000 breeding cows to poor households, while anumber of businesses, such as the Vietnam-Russia Oil and Gas JointVenture, the Vietnam Military Telecommunications Group,Vietcombank, and Vietinbank, invested in building schools and medicalcentres and providing schooling aids and medical tools worth billions ofVietnamese dong for the region.
In 2014, the Vietnam Red Crossand its chapters in the region carried out a series of humanitarianactivities with a sum of 83 billion VND (3.88 million USD) to aid morethan 475,700 needy people.
Apart from calling for more supportto the region, the Central Highlands Steering Committee visited andpresented gifts worth 8 billion VND (374,707 USD) to needy people in theregion and 29 nearby mountainous districts.
In 2015, the committee will continue mobilising donation to social security programmes in the region.
VinGroup plans to assist the building 1,000 houses in the Central Highlands and nearby mountainous districts.
Covering over 54,400 sq.km, the Central Highlands groups the fiveprovinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong, Gia Lai and Kon Tum, with apopulation of over 5.4 million people, 25.7 percent of them ethnicminorities.-VNA
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
