Central Highlands focuses on sustainable poverty reduction

The Steering Committee for the Central Highlands has raised hundreds of billions of VND for sustainable poverty reduction initiatives across ethnic minority households in the region from thus far this year.
The Steering Committee for the Central Highlands has raised hundreds ofbillions of VND for sustainable poverty reduction initiatives acrossethnic minority households in the region from thus far this year.

As many as 16,000 gifts, worth a total of eight billion VND (380,000USD) were distributed to impoverished ethnic minority households in theregion and neighbouring provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen,Binh Phuoc, Khanh Hoa, and Ninh Thuan in honour of the traditional Tetfestival.

U nderprivileged people in thetargeted localities will also receive houses and breeding cows donatedby the VinGroup, Vietcombank, and Maritime Bank.

Between 2013 and 2014, local businesses pledged to donate more than 207billion VND (9.6 million USD) to build houses, schools, and communalhouses across the central Highlands provinces, according to theCommittee.

As many as 5,000 breeding cows wereoffered to ethnic minority households in Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, DakNong and Lam Dong.-VNA

According to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC), this year’s campaign provided long-term aid for 3,785 individuals and organisations. Support included houses, clean water systems, school meal facilities, books, and livelihood assistance, with a total value of more than 118 billion VND.
