China hopes for 'important step' towards denuclearisation

Beijing (VNA) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on February27 that the second summit between US President Donald Trump and DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un can be an "importantstep" towards advancing denuclearisation and peace on the KoreanPeninsula.

The Hanoi meeting can not only increase the hard-won warming up of thesituation, but also take an important step towards advancing the denuclearisationof the peninsula and establishing a peace mechanism, Wang said after talks withhis Russian and Indian counterparts in the eastern Chinese city of Wuzhen.

He said he hopes the summit can reach a new progress towards denuclearisation andlong-term peace on the Korean Peninsula.

According to the announcement of the White House, Trump and Kim were scheduledto havea 20-minute one-on-one meeting at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi hotel at6:30 pm on February 27 before they come to a social dinner which is expected toconclude at 8:35pm.

The two leaders plan to have a series ofofficial meetings on February 28.-VNA
