China, Laos bolster anti-terrorism, drug control cooperation

Beijing (VNA)𝓰 – The Chinese Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun met with his Lao counterpart Somkeo Silavong in Beijing on November 17 to strengthen collaboration on counter terrorism and drug control. 

Guo stressed that China and Laos should deepen law enforcement cooperation, particularly along the Mekong River region, fight terrorism and transnational drug crimes.  He also urged the two countries to protect each other’s personnel, agencies and major projects and link China’s “Belt and Road” initiative with the Lao development strategy.  Somkeo affirmed that Laos is willing to expand security and law enforcement cooperation with China.-VNA

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations. He hoped for a tariff rate not exceeding 10% and suggested that the US might extend the negotiation period if an agreement is not reached by the July 8 deadline.
