China’s Foreign Minister pays official visit to Thailand

Bangkok (VNA) –
Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi paid anofficial visit to Thailand on October 14-15 at the invitation of Thai DeputyPrime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai.

The visit was the first by a foreign minister to Thailand since the COVID-19outbreak hit the nation.

At a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on October 15, Wang Yihailed Thailand’s success in containing the novel virus as well as its people’senthusiastic support in the fight against the outbreak.

Meanwhile, the host spoke of positive results that China has achieved whiledeveloping COVID-19 vaccine.

Both sides lauded the bilateral economic and trade relations since China is oneof the leading trade partners of the Southeast Asian country, and the maininvestor in several projects in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

On the occasion, PM Prayut thanked Chinese President Xi Jing Ping for expressinghis concern over the drought situation in Mekong River, as well as cooperationin water resources management under the Mekong – Lancang Cooperationmechanism./.
