Chinese citizens jailed for stealing money using fake ATM cards
The People’s Court of Hanoi on March 6 sentenced two Chinese citizens, Tian Yun Yun and Ke Zheng, to seven years and 30 months in prison, respectively, for using fake ATM cards to steal money from other people’s bank accounts.
Hanoi (VNA) – The People’sCourt of Hanoi on March 6 sentenced two Chinese citizens, Tian Yun Yun and KeZheng, to seven years and 30 months in prison, respectively, for using fake ATMcards to steal money from other people’s bank accounts.
Tian, born in 1987 in China’s Jangxiprovince and Ke, born in 2000 in Guangxi province, were found guilty of usingcomputers, telecommunication networks, the Internet or digital devices to arrogateproperty as stated in the Penal Code.
According to the indictment, afterarriving in Vietnam on May 27, 2016, the duo installed cameras and otherdevices at an ATM booth in Hanoi’s Lang Ha street to steal cardholders’information and make160 fake ATM cards.
On June 4, 2016, they withdrew 210million VND (nearly 10,000 USD) using 14 cards. After two hours withdrawingmoney, they were arrested by Ba Dinh district police.

A police patrol in District 11 has arrested, a 39-year-old man, who was using fake ATM cards to withdraw money from a booth belonging to the Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) on Binh Thoi Street.
ATM card holders in Vietnam had 89.8 trillion VND (4.08 billion USD) in 42.7 million current accounts at the end of June, according to the latest data from the State Bank of Vietnam. The savings earn 1.2 percent in interest per year.
Hanoi Police have arrested Feng Hai Qiang, a Chinese citizen, for the act of using counterfeit debit cards to appropriate cash from automated teller machines (ATM).
