CLMTV countries discuss social insurance for migrant workers
Senior officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam (CLMTV) convened their fourth meeting on labour cooperation in Hanoi on August 20, discussing social insurance connection for migrant workers in countries involved.

Hanoi (VNA) – Senior officialsfrom Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam (CLMTV) convened theirfourth meeting on labour cooperation in Hanoi on August 20, discussing socialinsurance connection for migrant workers in countries involved.
Organised by the Vietnam Ministry ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), the two-day conference gatheredrepresentatives from social insurance bodies and agencies involved in the fieldof the countries, and from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and theASEAN.
In his opening speech at the event, ViceMinister of the MoLISA Doan Mau Diep praised Thailand’s initiative oforganising labour conferences at ministerial and senior-official levels amongthe five countries.
He said the functions have helped the CLMTVgroup bolster their management of cross-border migrant workers, bring practicalbenefits for their residents and each country’s economic development.
Diep stressed that the theme of theconference reflects a commitment made at the 2nd CLMTV Ministerial Conferenceon Labour Cooperation in August 2017. The minister added it is also in linewith the five countries’ priority of ensuring social welfare, particularly insocial insurance payment and benefits for migrant workers amid their increasingnumber in the five countries.
At the conference, participants wereupdated about the latest information on migrant workers’ affairs in the region,as well as the ratification of ILO’s protocols and recommendations related tosocial welfare, including social insurance for migrant workers.
Representative from the five countriesdelivered reports on their respective nations’ implementation of socialinsurance for the workers.
The conference reviewed the CLMTV group’srealisation of their commitment at the 2nd Ministerial Conference on LabourCooperation.
It also looked at the five countries’preparation of agenda for the third ministerial conference in Cambodia in2019.-VNA
Cooperation in education, trade and technology would help Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam control and protect migrant workers, said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of Laos met in Vietnam’s central city of Da Nang on August 3 to discuss boosting cooperation.
