Conference looks to improve ethnic minorities’ access to information
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on December 26 held a training conference on disseminating information on the national target programme on socio-economic development in mountainous and ethnic-inhabited areas in the 2021-2025 period.
Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on December 26 held a training conference on disseminating information on the national target programme on socio-economic development in mountainous and ethnic-inhabited areas in the 2021-2025 period.
The programme’s objectives are to exploit potential and advantages of localities in the mountainous and ethnic-inhabited areas; promote economic development, and ensure social welfare in those areas; boost rapid and sustainable poverty reduction to gradually narrow the gap in living standards and average income compared to the national average; and comprehensively develop education, training, health and culture.
Tran Thi Nhi Thuy, head of the MIC’s Legal Department, said that the conference is intended to enhance the media's understanding of the goals and contents of the programme, as well as coordination and information sharing between state management agencies, and media agencies, thus increasing the efficiency of assisting ethnic minorities in accessing information.
Reporting on several policies supporting residents in these areas in information access, Nguyen Ngoc Hai, deputy head of the MIC’s Planning-Finance Department, said that press and communications agencies should focus on popularising the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws on the implementation of policies and laws on sustainable poverty reduction to raise public awareness on this field; and orienting people in accessing basic social services and programmes on employment, vocational training, health, education, housing and clean water./.
A series of training courses are being organised for 1,200 ethnic minority people who are part of ecotourism chains in the central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently issued a plan to hold seven programmes this year in the provinces of Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Dien Bien and Nghe An to support the preservation of ethnic minorities’ intangible cultures at risk of oblivion in tandem with local tourism development.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue has stressed the need to mobilise resources from society for the implementation of the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minorities and mountainous regions in 2021-2030, given the limited State budget.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan has affirmed that the Party and State always pay special attention to ethnic minorities across the country, uphold the importance of ethnic affairs as well as support mechanisms and policies to promote their role.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
