Can Tho (VNA) – An investmentpromotion conference to improve the food value chain in the Mekong Delta washeld in Can Tho city on December 12, attracting more than 150 experts,businesses and investors from Vietnam and abroad. 

Speaking at the event, head of the Ministryof Industry and Trade’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency Vu Ba Phu said withfavourable business conditions, the Mekong Delta is attracting more and moreforeign investors.

General Director of Trung An high-techagriculture company Pham Thai Binh said several enterprises from China, Europeand Australia want to buy Vietnamese rice but the country doesn’t produceenough high-quality rice to meet demand.

To improve the product value chain, heunderscored the need to create a manufacturing value chain.

Bulgarian Commercial Counsellor from theBulgarian embassy in Vietnam Oleg Marinov said in recent years, the EuropeanUnion has been the second largest market of Vietnam, behind the US. Two-waytrade topped 38.4 billion EUR in 2015, 29.9 billion EUR of which was Vietnam’sexports to the EU.

He asked Vietnam’s agricultural sector tostep up restructuring of manufacturing and renovate farming and processing toproduce high-quality products, thus satisfying demanding markets such as theEU.

On the occasion, 10 citiesand provinces in the Mekong Delta including Bac Lieu, Can Tho, Ca Mau, KienGiang, Hau Giang, An Giang, Tra Vinh, Long An, Vinh Long and Tien Giang receivedinvestment via 54 food processing projects. Bac Lieu attracted the most with 20projects.-VNA
