Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang on August20 sent a message of congratulations to Julie Payette, Governor General ofCanada, on the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Canada diplomatic relations(August 21, 1973-2018).
The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc cabled a congratulatorymessage to his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau.
Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan alsocongratulated Speaker of the Canadian Senate George Furey and Speaker of the CanadianHouse of Commons Geoff Regan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh alsotook the occasion to extend a congratulatory message to Canadian ForeignMinister Alexandra Chrystia Freeland.
Vietnam is currently Canada’s biggest trade partner in ASEAN withbilateral trade reaching nearly 5 billion USD in 2017. Canada ranks 14th among the112 nations and territories investing in Vietnam, with 149 projects totalling4.1 billion USD.
Recently, Canada announced its support of official developmentassistance (ODA) for a project developing cooperatives in Vietnam, another tohelp the country respond to climate change, and two others on food safety.
