Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese leaders on July 25extended congratulations to their Cuban counterparts on the 65th anniversary ofthe attack on the Moncada Barracks (July 26, 1953) which the Cubans viewed asthe beginning of the Cuban Revolution.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam CentralCommittee Nguyen Phu Trong sent a congratulatory message to First Secretary ofthe Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee Raul Castro Ruz.

President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc extended messages of greetings to President of the Council of State andCouncil of Ministers Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngancabled a message of congratulations to President of the Cuban National AssemblyEsteban Lazo Hernandez, while Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minhoffered greetings to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on theanniversary.

On July 26, 1953, a group of revolutionaries led by FidelCastro attacked the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba. Although they lost,this event paved the way for the insurrection against the regime of DictatorFulgencio Batista and the establishment of the first agrarian-industrialcountry in the Western Hemisphere, taking Cuba to a new era of freedom andindependence.-VNA
