Cooperation between Vietnamese localities, Australia’s NSW expected to grow further

Sydney (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador toAustralia Nguyen Tat Thanh has visited New South Wales to seek ways to foster cooperationbetween Vietnamese localities and the Australian state.
During his visit on May 4 and 5, Thanh paid a courtesy visit to NSW Governor Margaret Beazley, who stressed that NSW attachesimportance to cooperation with Vietnamese localities.
The Governor also agreed to coordinate with theVietnamese side in celebrating the 50th founding anniversary of Australia-Vietnam diplomatic ties in 2023, saying she is willing to welcome Vietnamesehigh-ranking delegations and will visit Vietnamese localities soon to boost the bilateral comprehensive cooperation.
In reply, Thanh said he hopes that NSW will soonimplement an action programme to realise the 2019 memorandum of understandingon cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City, and consider expanding collaboration withother localities of Vietnam.
The ambassador also had meetings with leaders of theNSW Parliament, who noted with pleasure the development of the Vietnam-Australiarelations, including their legislative ties.
At meetings with Jess Scully, Deputy Lord Mayor ofthe City of Sydney, and Joseph La Posta, Chief Executive Officer, MulticulturalNSW, Thanh thanked local leaders for their assistance to the Vietnamesecommunity, and called for their further support in preserving Vietnameselanguage and culture in NSW.
The diplomat also met with Chief Justice of NSW AndrewBell, and representatives from Australian investors and businesses. Thanh notedhis hope for stronger trade and investment ties between Vietnamese localitiesand NSW as the trade cooperation remained modest.
He used the occasion to make a field trip to theUniversity of New South Wales and the University of Technology Sydney, which are leadingeducational institutions in Australia.
The ambassador said the two sides should step upcooperation in science and technology, and expressed his hope for tripartile cooperation between Vietnamese and Australian universities and businesses fromone of the two countries./.
The governments of Vietnam and Australia are promoting bilateral comprehensive cooperation in various fields, towards the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties in February 2023, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh has said.
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Australia is growing strongly, reaching 1.38 billion USD in the first quarter of 2022, a surge of 32.36 percent against the same period last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Vietnam will support Australian enterprises as they explore and expand their investment, business and trade activities in the country, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh told the host’s business community on May 5.
