HCM City (VNA) – Vietnamese currencies through history has beenfeatured at an exhibition that opened in Ho Chi Minh City on April 27 on theoccasion of 42nd anniversary of the Southern Liberation Day (April 30) and InternationalMuseum Day (May 18).
On the display are 700 objects of circulated currencies and related documentssuch as land sale paperwork, decrees on money printing and decisions on moneyissuance.
The exhibits are arranged into different history stages: currency in monarchy (fromthe 10th to the 20th century), currency in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam(1945-1975), currency in the Republic of Vietnam (1955-1975), currency of theNational Liberation Front (1963-1978) and currency in the Socialist Republic ofVietnam (1978-now).
Visitors to the exhibition will also see other types of currency used during thetwo resistant wars against France and the US, as well as precious objects suchas the gold coin worth 20 dong (1948), and collections of coins and silver barsin the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) and plates for money printing.
According to Hoang Anh Tuan, director of the Vietnam History Museum in Ho ChiMinh City, Vietnam’s first coin “Thai Binh hung bao” was minted under the Dinh Dynasty(968-980). Various kinds of currencies have come into being throughout history.
Coming to the exhibition, visitors will gain insight in the Vietnamese currencyhistory, which helps raise public awareness to preserve and promote nationalcultural heritage, he said.
