Cybersecurity protection function handed over to public security ministry

Hanoi (VNA)🎃 – The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) transferred its responsibility of ensuring cybersecurity to the Ministry of Public Security (MoPS) during a ceremony held in Hanoi on February 28.

Under the new arrangement, the MoPS will oversee 10 administrative procedures spanning three public services. These include issuing, reissuing, renewing, amending, and supplementing business permits for cybersecurity products and services; managing import permits for cybersecurity products; and issuing certificates for domain names.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long highlighted the significance of this transfer, calling it a crucial Government decision designed to ensure a centralised and unified approach to cybersecurity governance, thus improving the effectiveness of national security protection in cyberspace. Deputy Minister of Public Security Pham The Tung suggested the MIC - soon to be merged with the Ministry of Science and Technology - continue working closely with the MoPS on political and ideological work, while ensuring proper policies for officials, civil servants, and contract employees affected by this restructuring./.
