Czech city wants to boost cooperation with Vietnamese localities

Prague (VNA) - A delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic led by Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam on June 3 paid a working visit to Plzen, the country’s fourth largest city.

Plzen city's authorities expressed their interest and desire to promote locality-to-locality cooperation with Vietnam. Roman Zarzycky, its mayor, acknowledged the contributions by the Vietnamese community here.

Nam spoke highly of the traditional friendship and multifaceted collaboration between the two countries which have been developing fruitfully in various fields, noting due attention has been paid to locality-to-locality collaboration.

According to the ambassador, on the basis of the sound bilateral relations, Hanoi’s Hai Ba Trung district suggested the two cities establish a twinning relationship, focusing on their strengths in education and training, tourism and labour.

Zarzycky said Plzen city attaches great importance to developing relations between the two countries and with Vietnamese localities, noting that the two sides have a lot of potential for cooperation, especially with the foundation and educational quality of universities in the localities.

He also expressed his appreciation for the Vietnamese community in Plzen for their practical contributions to the host society, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 3,500-strong community accounts for about 40% of the number of foreigners in the city, serving as a bridge between the Czech Republic and Vietnam, he added.

The ambassador thanked Zarzycky and the local authorities for their attention to and support for the Vietnamese community, and expressed his hope to soon receive response on the proposal by Hai Ba Trung district. He also invited the mayor and a delegation of Plzen city to pay a working visit to Hanoi at an appropriate time.

Within the framework of the trip, the embassy delegation met the Vietnamese community in Plzen, lauding their soli🍰darity and efforts in integrating into the host country.🦂/.
