Dak Lak holds burial ceremony for fallen soldiers repatriated from Cambodia
Since 2000, Dak Lak has repatriated and reburied a total of 769 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia during various periods of war.
Dak Lak (VNA) ꦬ– A memorial and burial ceremony was held on the afternoon of May 28 at the Dak Lak provincial martyrs’ cemetery for the remains of 23 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during the war.
The ceremony was organised by the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee. The remains were recovered during the 2024–2025 dry season by Team K51 of the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command.
In a solemn atmosphere, provincial leaders, delegates, and local residents offered incense and observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Truong Cong Thai expressed deep gratitude to the martyrs, acknowledging their courageous sacrifices for national independence, peace, and the fulfilment of noble international duties.
He noted that over more than six months, despite harsh weather, officers and soldiers of Team K51 had successfully gathered information, conducted search, and repatriated the 23 sets of remains from Mondulkiri province in Cambodia. All the remains were unidentified.

The remains were found in Houaphanh province, Laos, by the search and repatriation team of the Thanh Hoa province Military Command during the 2024–2025 dry season. None of the martyrs has been identified.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.
A total of 146 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in Cambodia while defending the southwestern border and fulfilling international duties, were reburied in Tay Ninh province on January 22.
