Defence Ministry hands over 100 houses to disadvantaged families in Ben Tre

The houses were built for poor, near-poor, and policy beneficiary families in urgent need of housing in the districts of Mo Cay Bac and Giong Trom, Ben Tre province. The total construction cost was 6 billion VND (231,000 USD), approximately 60 million VND per house, funded by the defence ministry through Military Region 9 and the provincial Military Command.

Ben Tre (VNA)෴ – The Ministry of National Defence on May 7 officially handed over 100 “Great Solidarity” houses to disadvantaged families in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, at a ceremony held in Mo Cay Bac district.

The houses were built for poor, near-poor, and policy beneficiary families in urgent need of housing in the districts of Mo Cay Bac and Giong Trom. The initiative aims to improve their living conditions, helping them stabilise their lives and focus on work and production. According to Tran Van Trung, Deputy Director of Ben Tre’s Department of Construction, the construction was completed on schedule, meeting both safety and quality standards.
The total construction cost was 6 billion VND (231,000 USD), approximately 60 million VND per house, funded by the ministry through Military Region 9 and the provincial Military Command. Households contributed an additional average of 30 million VND each. Local youth union members and other community groups also donated labour and assisted in transporting materials.
Speaking at the event, Major General Nguyen Minh Trieu, Deputy Commander of Military Region 9, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting localities in implementing social welfare policies, strengthening all-people national defence, and fostering strong bonds between the military and civilians. To mark the occasion, the provincial Military Command presented 50 gift packages, each worth 300,000 VND, to families receiving the new homes. The Mo Cay Bac district steering committee for eradicating substandard houses also offered an additional 50 gifts./.
