Demand for workers among construction companies down in Q1

Only 23.6 percent of construction companies in Vietnam had a greater demand for workers in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter, while 20.1 percent said they needed fewer workers, a survey by the General Statistics Office (GSO) found.

Hanoi (VNA) -
Only 23.6 percentof construction companies in Vietnam had a greater demand for workers in the firstquarter of this year compared to the previous quarter, while 20.1 percent said theyneeded fewer workers, a survey by the General Statistics Office (GSO) found.

The remaining 56.3 percent said theirdemand for workers remained stable.

More State-owned enterprises (SOEs)reported increasing demand (29.6 percent) than those in the non-State and foreign-investedsectors (24.1 percent and 16.5 percent, respectively).

Only 14.1 percent of State-owned constructioncompanies noted falling demand for workers, while 20.4 percent of non-State and 18.3percent of foreign-invested enterprises did likewise.

The demand for workers is forecast to furthercontract in the second quarter since many businesses have scaled down productionand personnel to cope with the ongoing difficulties caused by the COVID-19pandemic.

The survey also revealed that non-Statefirms had the highest number of seasonal workers (60.2 percent), compared to 39.9percent in State-owned enterprises and 20.8 percent in foreign-invested enterprises./.
