Geneva (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue met leaders ofinternational organisations based in Geneva, Switzerland on September 14.
MeetingSecretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)Mukhisa Kituyi, Hue said Vietnam backs UNCTAD’s agenda that promotes globaltrade based on transparency, inclusiveness, and non-discrimination in serviceof development.
TheUNCTAD Secretary General hailed Vietnam’s socio-economic development andcontributions to UNCTAD’s agenda.
Bothsides agreed to bolster joint work in public debt management, managementcapacity, building and analysing trade, investment and development policies.
Speakingto representatives of 155 delegations at the 64th session ofUNCTAD’s Trade and Development Committee, Hue said Vietnam will continue effortsto perfect its law-governed State, build a transparent, facilitating, andaction-oriented government, renew growth model to improve economic efficiencyand competitiveness towards raising gross domestic product by 6.5-7 percentfrom 2017-2020.
Hesaid the country will keep improving the business climate to achieve theaverage level of ASEAN-4 nations by 2020 and meet OCED competitivenesscriteria.
AsVietnam hosts the APEC Summit 2017, the country has actively built an agenda towardsstrengthening linkage, promoting trade, sustainable and inclusive development,he said, adding that UNCTAD as well as other UN mechanisms need to improveworking efficiency and provide support for developing countries.
Participantswelcomed Vietnam’s achievements and development experience.
Onthe occasion, Deputy PM Hue and UNCTAD Secretary General witnessed the signingof a cooperation agreement on public debt management between the FinanceMinistry and UNCTAD, and two others on technical support between the FinanceMinistry and the World Health Organisation, and between the International RoadTransport Union and the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Duringa joint working session with leaders of more than 10 internationalorganisations based in Geneva, Hue said multilateral diplomacy is one of the pillarsin Vietnam’s foreign affairs policy and spoke highly of the role of the UN andinternational organisations based in Geneva.
Amidthe current global challenges, he called for attention to stepping upmultilateralism and global partnership for peace, security and development.
Heexpressed wish that international organisations will continue partnering withVietnam during the national construction and defence.
Inthe afternoon the same day, Hue held a working session with Executive Directorof the World Economic Forum Philipp Rosler and attended a ceremony marking the40th anniversary of Vietnam’s entry to the United Nations.-VNA
