A cherry blossom festivalopened for the first time in the northwestern province of Dien Bien on January6.

Taking place in Pa Khoang commune, Dien Bien district, theopening ceremony featured an art show that introduced ethnic culture in DienBien through songs and traditional costumes of Vietnam and Japan.

The Pa Khoang – Dien Bien Cherry Blossom Festival 2018consists of a host of cultural, sport and tourism activities, including moviesscreened on a mobile cinema, and tours around local popular destinations, suchas the Che Can cultural village and the command post of the Dien Bien Phubattle. A photo exhibition and food tasting event promoting Vietnamese and Japanesefeatures are also scheduled to take place.

The festival serves as a curtain raiser for several eventsin celebration of 45-year diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan (September21). It aims at fostering bilateral friendship and cooperation and promotingJapanese investment in Dien Bien.-VNA

𒉰 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
