Dong Nai province urged to accelerate urbanization

Dong Nai (VNA) – DongNai should pay more attention to urbanization besides industrialization, DeputyPrime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue told the southern province’s officials during a workingsession on January 8.
He hailed the province for its socio-economicperformance in 2018, with an 8.1 percent increase in Gross Regional DomesticProduct (GRDP), which is higher than the national rate, and a trade surplus of2.6 billion USD, nearly one third of the country’s total.
The Deputy PM particularlyappreciated Dong Nai’s success in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI),with more than 28 billion USD poured into the locality so far and 20.5 billionUSD of which already disbursed.
He required ministries andagencies to research suitable mechanisms and policies to enable Dong Nai tomaintain its growth rate in the time ahead.
According to Hue, Dong Nai isamong the top five contributors to the State budget and a driving force of thesouthern key economic region as well as the country, hence the need forpolicies to nurture its growth.
The government leader alsoacknowledged Dong Nai’s success in building new rural areas, with 100 percentof its communes meeting all criteria for new rural areas and 17 communesachieving the revised higher criteria set by the province.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Tran Van Vinh reported that Dong Nai now has 35 industrial parks withan occupancy rate of 77 percent. The province absorbed 1.9 billion USD in FDIin 2018, and earned 18.6 billion USD from exports, with a surplus of 2.6billion USD.-VNA
