Since 2015, the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang has witnessed an annual rise of 10 percent in the number of tourists. This is attributable to the recognition of the Dong Van Karst Plateau as a Global Network of National Geopark. Thanks to this, the locality hopes to welcome more tourists in the future.
Covering a total area of over 2,300 sq.km, the Dong Van Karst Plateau is 80 percent limestone and contains the fossils of thousands of species of prehistoric creatures from 400-600 million years ago.
It was recognised by UNESCO as a member of the Global Network of National Geoparks in 2010 and received the title again for the 2015-2018 period.
