DPRK, Singaporean FMs meet ahead of Kim-Trump summit

Hanoi (VNA) - The foreign ministers of the Democratic People’sRepublic of Korea (DPRK) and Singapore held talks on June 7 ahead of the summitbetween DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump in Singapore onJune 12.

Kyodo News confirmed that Singaporean Foreign Minister VivianBalakrishnan, who arrived in the DPRK earlier in the day, met with his DPRKcounterpart Ri Yong-ho in Pyongyang.

During the two-day visit, Balakrishnan is also scheduled to meet with KimYong-nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of theDPRK, according to the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Balakrishnan's visit, which is made at the invitation of Ri, follows hisrecent trip to Washington, where he held talks with his US counterpart MikePompeo, and comes as Singapore is stepping up preparations for the first-eversummit between the DPRK and US leaders.

On June 5, the White House announced the historic summit between Trump andKim will take place at Capella hotel on the resort island of Sentosa.-VNA
