Eighth CLV summit affirms determination to enhance links

Measures agreed at the freshly-ended eighth Cambodia-Laos-VietnamDevelopment Triangle (CLV) summit will allow broader economicconnections to be made, said Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

They included making a list on prioritised projects for investment,building special preferential policies, making a planning for tourismdevelopment, and completing a rubber industry development scheme, saidSon.

High consensus was reached on the need tobolster partnership in security and cross-border criminal prevention andfighting, and speed up joint programmes in environmental protection andnatural resources management, he said.

At theevent, the leaders reviewed the implementation of the revised masterplan on socio-economic development of the CLV development triangle areato 2020 and the memorandum of understanding on preferential policies forthe area.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dungintroduced a host of initiatives, with those on the upgrade andexpansion of the CLV framework and the designing of a plan on economicconnectivity winning the participants’ approval, said Son.

He said the summit offered opportunities for the three countries’leaders to affirm the political determination in bolstering theirall-faceted cooperation and furthering the traditional solidarity andfriendly neighbourliness.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung metwith General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party andPresident Choummaly Sayasone and Lao Prime Minister ThongsingThammavong, reaching an agreement to increase high-level exchanges andeffectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanism.

They committed to backing businesses’ links, pushing negotiations for afree trade agreement to be signed, and raising two-way trade to 2billion USD by 2015, Son noted.

Meeting CambodianPrime Minister Hun Sen, the two sides emphasised the need to maintainhigh-level meetings, work closely together in economics, trade,investment, and security and defence.

The twocountries have set to lift two-way trade to 5 billion USD in 2015 and tocomplete land border demarcation for a shared border of peace,friendship, stability and development, Son said.

ThePMs vowed to continue creating favourable conditions for their citizensto enjoy equal treatment and full integration in the host countries,Son noted.-VNA
