Fencers to take part in China Asian championship

National fencers will compete against the continent's best at the Asian championship from June 17-22 in Wuxi, China.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA)- National fencers will compete against the continent's best at the Asianchampionship from June 17-22 in Wuxi, China.

A team of 24 athletes including32nd SEA Games champions such as Vu Thanh An, Nguyen Tien Nhat and Bui Thu Hawill compete at the event.

"All the bestfencers in Asia will take part in the event," said Phung Le Quang of theFencing Department of the Vietnam Sports Administration.

"They are at a veryhigh level and have different styles of fencing. Vietnamese athletes will gaina lot of experience from them."

Among competitors, An inmen's sabre and Nhat in men's epee are top two athletes who can get highresults in Wuxi.

An took a bronze medalhere in 2016 while Nhat finish third at the 2019 edition.

"We hope that Anand Nhat, two of the most experienced fencers in the team, will reach theirpeak and be in good mood at the tournament," said Quang.

"High results inhis championship will help them to earn points for the Paris Olympicscampaign."/.
