Bac Ninh (VNA) – Chairwoman of the People's Committee of the northernprovince of Bac Ninh Nguyen Huong Giang on November 20 hosted a reception for FinnishAmbassador Kari Kahiluoto, during which the two sides discussed the treatment ofwastes.

The foreign diplomat described the event as one of thepractical activities aimed at pushing up the relations between the twocountries.

Over the recent past, Finland has been cooperating withVietnam in general and Bac Ninh province in particular in various fields,especially waste treatment, the ambassador said, adding his embassy has beenproviding active support to the country’s firms in implementing projects inVietnam, most recently the waste-to-energy plant in Bac Ninh’s Que Vo district.

He expressed his hope that Bac Ninh leading officials willcontinue supporting and facilitating the early completion and commissioning ofthe project.

For her part, Giang briefed her guest on the provincialsocial and economic situation. Every day, the province discharges about 870 tonnesof wastes from the daily life activities, and this figure will increase 10percent annually. As a result, Bac Ninh is facing with the problemenvironmental pollution.

She expressed her thank for Finland’s support to theprovince in implementing the waste-to-energy technology and pledged that BacNinh authorities will create the best possible conditions for the project to beaccelerated, completed and operated./.

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
