First RoK visit by justice minister successful

Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong wrapped up his week-long working visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) on April 5, the first visit by a Vietnamese justice minister.

During the stay, Cuong held talkswith Minister of Legislation Je Jeong-boo and witnessed the signing ofthe 2015-16 cooperation programme - a follow-up to realise theirmemorandum of understanding signed in June 2012.

The programme covers the details of bilateral cooperation activities andcommitments at multilateral legal and judicial forums, including theAsian Forum of Legislative Information Affairs (AFOLIA).

Hailing Cuong’s visit, Minister Je expressed belief that RoK agencieswould provide more active assistance for Vietnam in legislation andtraining of judicial staff.

Je also vowed utmostefforts to strengthen bilateral ties, initially by bringing the 2015-16cooperation programme to life.

While chairing theworkshop “Laws and economic development process”, Cuong said the RoK’s60-year history of legislation makes a useful reference to Vietnamduring its economic development process, citing the Korean government’sindirect support to business community in management, infrastructure andmanpower.

Holding working sessions with Presidentof the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the SupremeCourt’s Judicial Research and Training Institute, Cuong wished for theirsupport in judicial staff training for the ministry and the Academy ofJustice.

Giving nod to his proposal, KOICAPresident suggested designing a joint project with the Vietnameseministry using the official development assistance funded by the RoK.-VNA
