Foreign leaders send condolences over former Party chief’s passing

Leaders of countries and parties sent their letters of condolences over the passing away of former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Do Muoi to leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State and people, and the deceased’s family.

Hanoi (VNA) – Leaders of countries and parties sent their letters ofcondolences over the passing away of former General Secretary of the CommunistParty of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Do Muoi to leaders of the VietnameseParty and State and people, and the deceased’s family.

In his letter sent to Party General Secretary Nguyen PhuTrong, Secretary-General of the People's Action Party (PAP) of Singapore LeeHsien Loong showed his profound sympathy over the death of Do Muoi,appreciating his important role in deepening bilateral cooperation betweenSingapore and Vietnam, and between relations between the PAP and the CPV.

The Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of theDemocratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) conveyed its condolences to theVietnamese Party, Government and people and the deceased’s family. In itsmessage, the committee wrote that Do Muoi is a senior revolutionist andwell-known politician of the Vietnamese Party and State.

Condolences also came from Belarusian President AlexanderLukashenko; Thongvin Phomvihane, wife of late Lao President Kaysone Phomvihane;the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Japan; the Communist Party ofthe Peoples of Spain; Patrik Köbele, leader of the Communist Party of Germany;and Park Robyug, Secretary General of the International Conference of AsianPolitical Parties (ICAPP).

Do Muoi was born on February 2, 1917, in Dong My commune,Thanh Tri district, Hanoi. He passed away in Hanoi on October 1 at the age of101 due to serious illness. He served as General Secretary of the CPV CentralCommittee from June 1991 to December 1997, and was presented with an insigniaof 80-year Party membership.
