Foreign ministry confirms Vietnamese citizens rescued from scam rings in Myanmar
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working closely with the Ministry of Public Security on the case and has instructed Vietnam’s diplomatic missions in Thailand and Myanmar to cooperate with local authorities in identifying the rescued individuals and carrying out necessary citizen protection measures.

Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar authorities are currently detaining multiple foreign nationals, including Vietnamese citizens, following a crackdown on online scam operations along the Thailand-Myanmar border, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang has said.
"We are still verifying the exact number," Hang said at the ministry’s regular press conference on February 27.
According to the spokeswoman, the ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Public Security on the case and has instructed Vietnam’s diplomatic missions in Thailand and Myanmar to cooperate with local authorities in identifying the rescued individuals and carrying out necessary citizen protection measures.
Regarding Vietnam’s cooperation with neighbouring countries in combating scam networks along shared borderlines, Hang said that Vietnamese authorities have been collaborating with their counterparts to investigate and prosecute Vietnamese citizens involved in criminal activities abroad in accordance with laws of both Vietnam and host countries.
“We believe that all legal violations must be dealt with in line with the law. Vietnamese authorities have been, are, and will continue to closely monitor the situation, ensuring necessary and timely consular protection measures for Vietnamese citizens who are victims in such cases,” she stated.
Concerning a February 26 report from the Thai media about a collision between a Vietnamese fishing vessel and a Thai navy ship off the coast of Trat province, which resulted in the seizure of the vessel and detention of four Vietnamese fishermen, Hang noted that Vietnam has not yet received an official notification from Thai authorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand to clarify the situation and take necessary steps to protect the detained fishermen if confirmed.
Additionally, when asked about reports that 43 Vietnamese nationals had been detained for illegal entry into Thailand, t🔯he spokeswomꦺan stated that authorities are still verifying the information./.
