Foreign officials mourn former President Le Duc Anh’s passing

Hanoi (VNA) – Adelegation from the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence on May 4 paidtribute to former Vietnamese President General Le Duc Anh at the VietnameseEmbassy in Phnom Penh.

Onbehalf of the Cambodian officers, Defense Ministry Secretary of State Elvan Sarat expressed his deepest sorrow at the passingof General Le Duc Anh.

Herecalled the former President’s great contributions to enhancing the friendship,solidarity and multifaceted cooperation between the Vietnamese and Cambodianarmies.

Representativesfrom several ministries and the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia alsopaid their last respects to former President General Le Duc Anh.

Thesame day, Russian Ambassador to Cambodia Dmitry Tsvetkov came to the VietnameseEmbassy to pay his homage to the late leader.

Thediplomat showed his respect to the deceased for his talent, and lauded his hugecontributions to consolidating and strengthening cooperation between Vietnamand  Russia in various spheres.

The Vietnamese Embassy inEgypt also opened the book of condolences for former President General Le DucAnh on May 3 and 4.

Representatives from foreignembassies and diplomatic corps in Egypt, local officials and Vietnamese expatsin the country came to pay tribute to the late leader.

GeneralLe Duc Anh, who served as President of Vietnam from September 1992 to December1997, passed away on April 22 at the age of 99.

Vietnamdeclared two days of national mourning for him on May 3 and 4. A State funeralfor the former President was held on May 3.-VNA
