Former national library director honoured with French order

Hanoi (VNA)🅺 - France’s Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Porier on March 9 presented the French Order of Arts and Literature to Pham The Khang, former Director of the National Library of Vietnam (NLV).
In his 10-year term started in 2000 as NLV’s director, Khang made great contributions to the popularisation of the French language and culture to Vietnamese people as well as boosting the cooperation between the NLV and the National Library of France, said the French ambassador at the award ceremony.
The former director also helped build an e-search system for nearly 60,000 French-language books, Porier added.
Initiated in 1957, the Order of Arts and Literature of France is to honour outstanding figures whose creativeness in literature and fine arts has helped make a contribution to popularise arts and literature in France and other countries around the world.
A number of well-known Vietnamese individuals have been awarded the order, including director Le Manh Thich, designer Minh Hanh, choreographer Nguyen Cong Nhac, writer Nguyen Huy Thiep, and translator Duong Tuong.-VNA
Vietnam will once again honour the French language through a film festival and concerts to celebrate International Francophonie Day, which falls on March 20.
The 2015 Book Festival takes place at the National Library of Vietnam in Hanoi from April 18 to May 5 in response to Vietnam Book Day (April 21) and World Book and Copyright Day (April 23).
Nguyen Thi Thao from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University has won first prize in the Alexandre Yersin youth award launched by the French charity organisation Le Liseron.
