Hanoi(VNA) – The Investigation Police Department under the Ministry of PublicSecurity on December 8 issued a decision to arrest and start legal proceedingsagainst Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of the Member Council of PetroVietnam(PVN).
Thang, who iscurrently a member of the Party Central Committee and deputy head of the PartyCentral Committee’s Economic Commission, was arrested to serve theinvestigation of two serious economic cases.
He is suspected ofinvolvement in the case of deliberately violating the State’s regulations oneconomic management, causing serious consequences (Article 165 of the PenalCode), and abusing position and authority to arrogate property (Article 280 ofthe Penal Code), causing losses of 800 billion VND in PVN’s investment in OceanBank.
Thang is also thoughtto have a role in the case of deliberately violating the State’s regulations oneconomic management, causing serious consequences and committing embezzlement(Article 278 of the Penal Code) in PetroVietnam Construction Corporation relatedto the Thai Binh 2 thermal power project.
The same day, thePolitburo issued a decision on suspending Thang’s Party-related activities as fromDecember 8, 2017.
Also on December 8,the 14th National Assembly’s Standing Committee adopted a resolutionsuspending Dinh La Thang’s status of a NA deputy.-VNA
The Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission has decided disciplinary actions for a number of former executives of the National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) for their serious legal violations that caused great economic losses and negatively affected the prestige of the Party Organization and related individuals.
Politburo member Dinh La Thang has received an official warning and has no longer been part of the Politburo of the Party Central Committee for his past wrongdoings as head of PetroVietnam.
