French city hosts major exhibition of late Vietnamese painter’s artworks
A large-scale exhibition featuring about 140 artworks by late Vietnamese painter Mai Trung Thu is underway at Ursuline Museum in the central France city of Mâcon.

This is the first time a French museum hascollected such a large number of works by one of the leading painters ofVietnam’s contemporary art. The exhibition will run until the end of October. Addressing the opening ceremony of the event, Ambassador Le ThiHong Van, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to UNESCO, expressed hergratitude to the French city for holding the exhibition and bringing the quintessenceof the painter's work to art lovers. She added that activities introducing the Vietnamese culture in Macon reflect the dynamic and practical cooperation of the Vietnam-France strategic partnership,she said, adding that the 12th Vietnam-France decentralised cooperation conference will be held in Vietnam nextyear. Mai Lan Phuong, the only daughter of the late painter, also attendedthe ceremony. Earlier in June, the Ursulines museum inaugurated a space displaying the copies of more than 30 artworks by Thuat Lyon station in Paris, an important transport hub of the French capitalcity. Until September, Mâcon city is to host dozensof major events promoting Vietnamese culture, including a concert and thosethat introduce Vietnam’s folk music, cuisine and calligraphy.

Mai Trung Thu (1906-1980) was considered as one of the fourmost renowned Vietnamese artists based in France. He was one of the graduates of the first course of the Fine Arts College ofIndochina, or Ecole des Beaux-Art de l'Indochine, in Hanoi. He joined the French army in 1940. After leaving the army one year later, he decided to settle in Mâcon.

An oil painting on canvas entitled Portrait de Mademoiselle Phuong (Portrait of Mademoiselle Phuong) by late painter Mai Trung Thu has sold at an auction for the highest price paid for Vietnamese art.
A portrait, titled La Joconde (Mona Lisa), by late painter Mai Trung Thu (1906-1980) will be available for bidding on May 24 as part of the Christie’s Hong Kong Spring Auctions.

An art exhibition featuring 140 paintings produced by renowned Vietnamese artist Mai Trung Thu will be held at the Ursulines Museum in Macon, France, from June 16 to October 24, the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reported.
The Vietnamese team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, where they will train until July 14 before departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN U23 Championship 2025, which runs from July 15 to 29. Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22 in the group stage.
The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.
Eight teams will join the tournament, divided into two groups. Group A features Vietnam, the Philippines, Sichuan Club (China), and Australia, while Group B consists of Vietnam U21, Korabelka Club (Russia), Taiwan (China), and U21 Thailand.

The U23 competition will run from June 16 to 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28, while athletes competing in the U23 category will undergo weight and skill checks ahead of the matches starting June 18, while similar checks for U17 athletes will take place before June 23.
Vietnam continues to sit just behind continental powerhouses Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, China, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
