
Berlin (VNA)– German and European media have reported high appreciation for Vietnam'sdonation of face masks to European countries to help them fight the COVID-19pandemic.
The German electronic newspaperDW ran an article, saying the Vietnamese Government had handed over 550,000 antibacterialface masks as gifts to the embassies of Germany, France, Italy, Spain and theUK in Hanoi.
Meanwhile, Euronewsreported that in addition to the above-mentioned countries, Vietnam has alsodonated masks and medical equipment to Cambodia, Laos and China.
The German Embassy in Vietnam, through its facebook page, thanked the VietnameseGovernment for giving the German Government 110,000 face masks.
According toVietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister To Anh Dung, Vietnam wants to support itsEuropean partners which have shown their solidarity and friendship with Vietnamin the past.
The German Embassy said that theVietnamese community in Germany has also joined hands with local authorities inthe fight against the pandemic.
Thousands of medical face masks, cloth masks,and protective gloves have been mobilised among overseas Vietnamese in Germany to present tolocal hospitals, nursing homes, health centres and police stations.
Many Vietnameserestaurants in the European country have offered thousands of free meals todoctors and nurses at COVID-19 treatment centres, the embassy added.
The German Embassy expressed its gratitude to the Vietnamese community’s determinationto combat the disease, as well as the strength of the German-Vietnamesefriendship.
It said that research institutions, scientists and the governments of the twocountries are closely cooperating in the COVID-19 combat.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese-GermanCentre of Excellence in Medical Research (VG-CARE) in Hanoi recently delivered6,000 test tubes to Germany forCOVID-19 drug development research.
In an interview with Berlin-baseddaily newspaper Berliner Zeitung on April 7, Regine Hengge, a prestigiousmicrobiology professor from Humbolt University, recommended that Germanauthorities and people follow Vietnam’s face mask wearing rule to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic./.
