Gia Lai ensures stable power supply for Cambodia’s Ratanakiri province
Electricity from Vietnam’s national grid has flowed through the Le Thanh International Border Gate in Gia Lai’s Duc Co district into Ratanakiri, effectively supporting the local population’s economic activities and daily needs.

Gia Lai (VNA) – The electricity sector of the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai has been working to ensure a stable supply of power for Cambodia’s Ratanakiri province, in line with the energy cooperation agreement between the two countries.
The cross-border power transmission project began operations in May 2011. Since then, electricity from Vietnam’s national grid has flowed through the Le Thanh International Border Gate in Gia Lai’s Duc Co district into Ratanakiri, effectively supporting the local population’s economic activities and daily needs.
Tang Van Dung, Director of Gia Lai’s Duc Co power company, said it allocates annual investment funds to upgrade and improve the power lines. Operational management is also a priority, with regular inspections, vegetation clearance along transmission lines through natural forests and rubber plantations, as well as the use of flycams and thermal cameras to detect and address risks.
Speaking on the collaboration effectiveness, Heng Piset, Director of the Ratanakiri Power Company, noted that the Duc Co and Gia Lai electricity companies have fulfilled requirements on electricity supply over the years. Moving forward, the two sides will continue close cooperation in grid operation and power trading, contributing to the successful implementation of the policy agreed upon by both Governments.
ಌ As of 2024, the Gia Lai Power Company invested tens of billions of VND in grid repair and improvement. In 2021 alone, more than 7.4 billion VND (over 282,900 USD) was allocated to upgrade the power infrastructure at the Le Thanh border gate, meeting the growing electricity demand of both sides./.
Through many ups and downs of history, Cambodia-Vietnam relations have become increasingly closer and stronger. The ties are currently developing based on the motto of “Good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability” from 2005 until today.
