Gyeongju city festival held in Ho Chi Minh City

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City’s Nguyen Hue pedestrian streetwas emblazoned with a kaleidoscope of cultures of Gyeongju city, the Republicof Korea (RoK), on November 12.

The event was held as part of the activities within the Ho Chi MinhCity–Gyeongju World Culture Festival 2017, taking place in the southern hubfrom November 11 to December 3.

Le Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, underlinedthat Vietnam hosted numerous important events in November, including the APEC2017 Economic Leaders’ Week and the Ho Chi Minh City–Gyeongju World Culture Festival,showing Vietnam’s role in the international community.

The events are expected to lure more foreign tourists to Vietnam, he said.

As Vietnam and the RoK are celebrating the 25th founding anniversaryof diplomatic ties this year, relations between Ho Chi Minh City and the RoK’slocalities have received more attention, Liem noted.

He believed that the festive activities will help promote cultural and economicexchanges between the two countries while enhance mutual understanding between theirpeople.

Choi Yangsik, Mayor of Gyeongju, said that dynamic Ho Chi Minh City andGyeongju have a range of similarities which comprise the maintenance ofConfucianism tradition, cultural respect and patriotism.

He hoped that the brilliant performances will bring Gyeongju city’s culturalfeatures closer to Vietnamese people.

Gyeongju was the capital of the 1,000 year-long Silla dynasty and was the corecity of the world’s ancient Silk Road. The city is also renowned for numerouscultural and historic heritages, stunning natural landscapes and colourfulfestivals which attract a large pool of visitors every year.-VNA

♛ Vietnamese culture takes centre stage in Korean city

The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
